Dr Raina Nikhil Nahar, Consultant Cosmetologist and Dermatologist Dermatology (Skin & Venereal Diseases) at Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital Mumbai helps us in understanding how ripped earlobes can be repaired sans any surgery.

Biggest advantage of this procedure is:

  • No local anaesthesia is needed.
  • It requires no sutures.
  • The procedure is done in a matter of few minutes without much pain.
  • It is cost effective and has lasting results.

Its only disadvantage is that it may require 2-3 sittings for total earlobe repair.

  • The healing time is about a week.
  • There are a range of over-the-counter painkillers that usually do a good job of numbing the pain during the first few days when the pain is mostly at its peak.
  • It is best for smokers to give up smoking a month before this surgery. This is important because smoking tends to interferes with the healing process and can increase the risk of infections.

Wearing earrings after earlobe repair

  • It is mostly said that waiting for a minimum month is a good enough time before putting on lightweight studs in ears.
  • It is best to not wear heavy earrings again to avoid tearing. If you must, always wear that extra ear chain that goes all round the ear to give support to extra heavy earrings.

Do listen to your surgeon properly when it comes to after-care and post-surgery maintenance.
