While it is more prominent in men, women too have been its victims. There are many hair restoration treatments available in the market today but one needs to be careful about which one they opt for. Apart from the monetary aspect, the procedure needs to be genuine and reliable so that you do not suffer later. A bad hair transplant can worsen your condition. It is vital to learn about the treatment you plan to undergo in depth. Lorraine Lambert, the CEO and Managing Director of Ailesbury Hair Clinics, London, explains their hair restoration process in detail which is now available in India. What is the hair restoration procedure and how is it done?
The hair restoration procedure consists of regrowing hair on the scalp without any linear scarring. A local anesthetic is used to numb the area before the procedure and hair follicles are removed from the non-testosterone sensitive zone at the back of the head. This is because it is an area where follicles survive for almost one's lifetime. I have seen men who have lost most of their hair but still have strong donor follicles in this area. In order to remove them, a motorised extraction machine is used. This causes no pain to the patient.
After this, the hair follicles are placed on the scalp using the hair implantation pen with specialised packing tools. The pen allows us to place the hair at the correct angle i.e. 35-45 degrees along the frontal hair line and other areas of the scalp. Since the hair does not grow 90 degrees upwards out of the skin, the placement angle is of vital importance to get a natural end result. On an average, 6,000 to 9,000 hair follicles are placed on the scalp.
The hair begins to grow after about three months of the treatment and thickens up between the fifth and eighth months. Patients can see a full growth within 10 months of the procedure. This method of hair restoration does not use cutting objects like scalpels or sutures which cause scarring and takes up to six hours for one sitting.
Who are the ideal candidates to undergo this treatment?
The ideal candidate has strong donor hair in the donor site; is 23-59 years old. The candidate can be male or female with male or female pattern baldness. Females should not suffer from diffuse hair loss, vitamin deficiencies or hormonal imbalances.
How is it different from other hair fall treatments available?
Other older methods of hair transplantation still use invasive surgical methods and large surgical tools which create scarring in the donor site. This is a scar-free procedure.
How many sessions does one need?
This depends on the type of hair fall one is suffering from. Some clients require just one while others with more advanced forms of hair loss may require two sittings.
Is this a permanent solution for hair loss?
Yes, this is a permanent solution. The hair will remain in the same location for the rest of one's life.
What are the costs involved in this treatment?
The procedure costs between Rs 1,00,000 to 1,20,000.
This hair restoration procedure is currently available at Richfeel Hair Forever clinics in Mumbai.
