The number of people suffering from diabetes now is higher than it has ever been. Even today medical science claims that diabetes is incurable, and it aims to control its symptoms through dietary changes and the daily use of insulin and other drugs.
The yogic management of diabetes, however, has been shown to bring the blood sugar levels to normal. In this video, Smt Hansaji Jayadeva Yogendra talks about how yogic asanas can control and improve the chronic condition. She suggests pavanmukhtasana or the wind relieving pose, an asana that increases insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar .
Note: Do not perform this pose if you suffer from hypertension.
Hansaji Jayadeva Yogendra is the Director of The Yoga Institute, President of The International Board of Yoga and Vice President of the Indian Yoga Association.
