Vaccination

Vaccination refers to the administration of antigenic material to stimulate our immune system so that we are not affected by pathogens. These vaccines can either be administered orally or via injections. Without the advent of vaccinations, people would still have been dying of deadly diseases like measles and Hepatitis B.

Our body has antibodies which fights diseases on it's own without making us fall sick. However, sometimes these antibodies aren't enough and we get infected from various harmful micro-organisms. In order to make sure that this doesn't happen, we must get ourselves and our children vaccinated.

Do adults need vaccines?

While it's true that children need a lot more vaccines, even adults need to get themselves vaccinated from time to time. For e.g., every time you hurt yourself or get a deep cut, you should get a tetanus booster dose. Also, the Hepatitis B vaccine can help prevent liver cancer. As for children, here is a guide to 10 vaccines that are recommended for your children.

Who invented vaccines?

Edward Jenner, an English doctor first invented vaccination for small pox. He had a theory that inserting pus taken from a cowpox pustule will make children immune from small pox, which was responsible for many deaths during that time. He tested this theory on several children, including his own and finally introduced to the world the incredible concept of vaccines.
