Flatulence

Flatulence is a medical term for abdominal gas. Gas can get accumulated in the abdomen either by excessive air intake or during the digestive process. Swallowing of excess air normally occurs with smoking, soft drink intake, and quick eating. Some other food substances like fruits, juices and some vegetables (cabbage, radish, broccoli, etc.) may also lead to increased flatulence. These food items may take a longer time for digestion and hence contribute to the problem. It can also occur in pathological conditions like constipation, gastric diseases, lactose intolerance, inflammatory bowel syndrome and celiac disease. In normal individuals self control over some particular food items helps to treat the problem without any medication, but in severe cases or if caused by some other health condition, medical advice is always suggested.
