Atherosclerosis is a condition in which the arteries get blocked due to the deposition of fatty substances, cholesterol and other cellular water on the walls of the arteries. It is a continuous and insidious process which actually starts when we are born but its effects are not seen until wear and tear reaches a particular level to hamper the blood flow to vital organs. Though anyone can suffer from atherosclerosis, there are a few risk factors which put a person at a higher risk of developing atherosclerosis. Common risk factors include smoking, alcohol intake, obesity, unhealthy eating habits and low exercise. Atherosclerosis itself is also a major risk factor for heart diseases like coronary artery disease, stroke, heart attack and peripheral artery disease. In this section, you’ll find articles on major risk factors, symptoms and treatment of atherosclerosis and boosting heart health. You can refer to our expert article on managing cholesterol and  also explore the impact of stress, black tea and egg yolk on heart health.
