There are two types of thyroid disease that could occur , hyperthyroidism (over activity of the thyroid gland) and hypothyroidism (under activity of the thyroid gland). In hyperthyroidism you will notice symptoms such as losing weight rapidly, increase in the body temperature (like a fever, but will be constant), hot flashes, palpitations, brittle hair and hair fall, extreme weakness and excessive perspiration. In Hypothyroidism you will notice symptoms such as rapidly putting on weight, loss of appetite, feeling run down or sluggish, dry flaky skin, hair fall, irregular periods etc.
