When you are pregnant, you need to take real care of yourself, and if you are someone who is always on the move, then you need to have the right things in your handbag so that you don’t fall short of the essentials when in need. So here goes the list of essentials you should keep in your bag at all times.
Prenatal vitamins: You need to keep it in your bag and never go out without it. If you leave it back home, you will miss taking your pills on time, and that can be really damaging to your baby if it happens too often.
Healthy snacks: You sure can’t go hungry for too long when pregnant, it will cost you and your baby heavily, so keep healthy snacks like dried fruits, energy bars (sugar-free ones), fruits or dry bhel to kill your hunger pangs before it's time for main meals.
A water bottle: Dehydration can be dangerous for both you and the fetus. So carry a water bottle everywhere you go so that you can take few sips when you are thirsty.
Wet tissues: If you are in a hot and humid area these tissues can come handy to give you some comfort and also save you from heat rashes that are common during pregnancy.
Sanitizers: Of course, you need it to keep your hands free of bacteria so that you don’t pass one to your baby accidentally.
Dried ginger or candies: If you are suffering from morning sickness you cannot leave your house without these, else how are you going to deal with nausea that gets you unawares any time.
Lip balm and moisturiser: Dried lips and dry skin is another pregnancy woe that you cannot avoid. This is more common with people who have sensitive skin. So keep your lip balm and moisturiser in your bag and slather it as and when needed.
Important phone numbers: You need to carry a small notepad with all the important numbers in it – your family, your doctor, your friends, your mid-wife (if you are consulting one), so that if you are in a middle of a crisis they can be reached immediately.
Maternity safety bands: They aren’t very popular in Indian, but they are available. If you are very concerned about your little one’s safety, you can wear one of them while you sit with your laptop or use other gadgets. These safety bands promise to keep your fetus safe from the radiations. However, we don’t promise its efficacy.
Maternity pads: Well, wondering why you need to keep them? God forbid if your water breaks when you are at work, you can use these as protection to prevent soaking till you reach the hospital. It is wise to have them in your handbag just as an emergency. Else, you can use it to counter post delivery bleeding or lochia.
