Mums, if you ever thought breastfeeding is difficult then wait till you start weaning your baby after six months of age. It is a testing time.You will have to put up with the fussiness with patience from your end. Take a cue from the little one about her likes and dislikes, which you will learn through trial and error. If you are wondering how to get started with the process here are some quick and easy recipes to help you.
Apple puree: This goes down well with kids over six months of age. Wash, peel and cut the apple into small pieces. Either pressure cook or boil the pieces in a pan with water till the pieces are soft to mash. Let it cool, mash and offer your baby with your finger or a baby spoon.
Pear puree: The preparation is similar to that of apple puree, just that pear takes less time to cook than apple. Be sure to pick a ripe one as an unripe one might be hard and take a lot of time to boil. Even after boiling an unripe one might not be soft to be mashed and qualify as baby food.
Mashed banana: This is easy and needs zero time for preparation. Just grab a ripe banana mash it thoroughly and try giving your baby with your finger or baby spoon. Most paediatricians advise starting weaning with a mashed banana once your baby is six months old.
Apple Apricot puree: This mix is a favourite among most babies because it gives a sweet aftertaste and adds texture to the food. Apart from peeling and dicing the apple, cut the apricots (take two) into small pieces and boil or pressure cook it. Mash when cooled and offer your baby with a spoon or clean fingers. Good for babies beyond eight months of age.
Mashed chickoo: This doesn’t need any preparation, just wash, peel and mash. This textured fruit is sweet and appeals to most babies. I started on this when my child was seven months old.
