As a mother of a newborn, you will realise that people often come with gifts. And seldom are those gifts anything handy. It breaks my heart when people spend money on something that the baby will never even use! So here's a list of things my baby received and we never used.
Blankets: How many blankets will a baby really use? And most blankets that she received were tiny, and she soon outgrew them. Chances are, the parents already have a few blankets for the baby, so you adding to the pile makes no sense.
Stuffed animals: They are cute, but useless. Newborns need a lot of stuff anyway - clothes, diapers, and the whole arsenal. Adding your stuffed toy to the chaos is too much for the new, sleep deprived parents to deal with.
Toiletries: I received a year worth's supply of toiletries, but none of the brand that I used for my daughter! Parents are very selective about what grooming products they use on their babies, so don't buy baby toiletry kits from any random pharmacy.
Toys: Really, toys for a newborn? Unless it is a baby gym, a newborn will not really use any toys, till she is much older. Even the rattlers are useless for newborns.
Clothes: Buying clothes for newborns is very tricky. You never know whether they will or won't fit in the 0-3 size clothes. Plus, overexcited parents usually have the baby's wardrobe stocked even before the bay arrives.
