We remove the skin of most fruits and vegetables. But certain foods are more nutrient- dense with skin. So make sure you do not peel these fruits and vegetables, recommends nutritionist Priya Kathpal.
Apples: By peeling apples, you will lose out on the soluble fibre pectin. Pectin helps lower your bad cholesterol levels and your blood sugar levels steady.
Grapes: It is true that grapes contain a lot of pesticides than any other fruit. But you still shouldn't peel their skin. In the skin of grapes, you will find resveratrol the phytochemical that benefits the heart. Going for organic produce can be wise.
Potatoes: Potatoes contain more iron, fibre and folate in the skin than there is in the flesh. In fact, the skin of potatoes contains 5 to 10 times more antioxidants than the flesh.
Cucumber: You will boost your calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin K intake by eating a cucumber with skin.
Eggplant: The skin of the eggplant is filled with the antioxidant nasunin which is crucial in maintaining healthy brain tissue. Nasunin is a flavonoid, and if you eat more flavonoid, you are less likely to gain weight.
