Whatever might be the cause of acidity, popping a pill or gulping down an antacid is what forms the first line of defence. But knowing about the symptoms of acidity might help you deal with the condition in an effective manner. Dr Aarti Ullal, General Physician, Mumbai explains six common signs of acidity. You can't miss the last one!
Headache: It is quite common to experience headache when you have gone without eating for long. Often ignored, if this is quite common then it might indicate acidity.
Chest pain: It is one of the most common symptoms of heart attack but it can be an indicator of acidity as well. If you experience pain on the right side of the chest followed by severe abdominal pain, it might be a signs of acidity.
Abdominal pain: Did you know that stomach acids are produced every two – three hours, indicating the need to eat frequently? And if you fail to do so, the acids attack the stomach lining, severely hurting the stomach and causing pain.
Nausea: Triggered by excess production of stomach acids, in some cases people experience nausea. And if left unattended it might lead to heart burn.
Water brash: When you experience a feeling of regurgitation due to excessive accumulation of saliva and stomach acid leading to weird taste in the mouth, it indicates acidity.
Dry cough: Not breathlessness but dry cough could be a sign of acidity, reveals Dr Aarti. This is attributed to acid reflux as well as reflux of non-acidic stomach contents, which causes chronic dry cough.
