Although migraine is an unpredictable disease, some people know what their triggers are. Common ones include chocolate, heat, inadequate sleep, stress and hormones. But there have been cases where some ridiculous reasons have lead to throbbing migraines. Seven migraineurs recount some of their strangest migraine triggers ever.
Chewing gum: 'Within minutes of chewing a mint-flavoured gum, I started experiencing throbbing pains on one side of my head. Before I knew it, I was having a full-blown migraine,' says Ritika a 31-year-old who has had migraine for the last ten years.
Laughing too hard: 'My co-worker once showed me some funny pictures of celebrity face swaps. I laughed so hard that tears started streaming down my face. And in the evening, when I returned home, I was down with a throbbing headache,' reveals Srihari, a 28-year-old journalist.
Medicated lozenges: 'I usually have the habit of taking a lozenge or two whenever I have a sore throat. Once, I took four instead of two and went off to sleep. In the morning, I woke up with a migraine,' says 25-year-old Corena.
Chorizo sausages: 'We recently visited a food joint in South Mumbai, where they served chorizo fried rice as a speciality. It was a very spicy dish. That was the last time I went to that restaurant, because I had an unbearable migraine for the rest of the day,' says Rohan, a graphic designer from Mumbai.
Sex: 'I am probably the unluckiest man alive! Sometimes, sex gives me migraine,' says a user anonymously on an online forum.
Travelling by car: 'Cars give me migraine. It's probably the smell of the seat or the motion sickness, but I absolutely hate car rides because of that,' reveals Anusha.
EDM music: 'I'm not trying to be a snob, but I really hate what kids listen to these days. It hurts my head in the real sense of the term,' says Tom at an online forum.
