Basil: Chew few basil leaves early in the morning or add fresh basil to salads or soups to reap its anticancer benefits. The antimutagenic and antioxidant properties of basil are attributed to the presence of linalool, eugenol and estragole, compounds which help in the prevention of tumours. It is more effective against liver cancer and breast cancer.
Coriander: Commonly used as a garnish, coriander is packed with anticancer properties. The active ingredient is linalool, which promotes antioxidant activity f the liver cells, thereby lowering the risk of liver damage and cancer. It also lowers lipid peroxidation (which can lead to the production of free radicals) thereby protecting you from cancer.
Dill: This herb which is widely consumed as a leafy vegetable particularly in Maharashtra. Dill leaves are loaded with anticancer compounds. The active ingredients are anethofuran and carvone, which protect healthy cells against free-radicals. Moreover, it also promotes drug detoxification thereby aiding in recovery after chemotherapy.
Rosemary: Rosemary oil has a unique aroma and contains active compounds like carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid, which are powerful antioxidants and also play a key role in inhibiting the proliferation of cancerous cells. It may block the adverse effects of certain chemotherapy drugs, aiding in the cancer treatment.
Thyme: A culinary and medicinal herb, the presence of phenolic compounds like thymol and carvacrol in thyme makes it a powerful anticancer compound. Studies have reported that thyme inhibits the growth of liver carcinoma cells and colon adenocarcinoma cells, thereby preventing liver cancer and colon cancer.
