The first thing that comes to mind when you think of summer is to choose the right sunscreen and ways to deal with prickly heat. Before you go shopping for summer skin care or beauty products, here's what you need to know, suggests Dr Rohit Batra, Dermatologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi.
Moisturiser: It is a common misconception that you do not need a moisturiser during summers. Instead, you should apply moisturiser before hitting the bed to prevent further dryness. Opt for a lotion based moisturiser for a good skin care routine.
Soaps: Instead of using a medicated soap to deal with sweating and itching of the skin, use regular soaps. This is because the use of regular soaps prevent you from any allergic reactions due to its composition and lowers the risk of itching and drying out the skin.
Calamine lotion: With summers, the risk of prickly heat, especially in kids and adults who sweat a lot, is very high. In such a case, you can use calamine lotion to soothe the skin rashes and get some relief.
Sunscreen: Do not use a sunscreen that you bought a year back as its UV might reduce. Buy a new one and apply it around half an hour before going out in the sun and every one or two hours if you are out in the sun.
