New Year resolutions are mostly about losing weight, leading a healthy life and achieving a better position professionally. But this year, make sure you also focus on your skin. Right from cleaning makeup brushes to washing your face after gym, Suruchi Puri, Consultant Dermatologist and Director at Medi Makeovers, suggests common skin care resolutions for 2017!
#1: I will always clean my makeup brushes. When was the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? Ideally, you should clean your makeup brushes once a week if you are using them quite often, as dirty tools can lead to build-up of bacteria which can lead to acne and other skin problems.
#2: I will do proper research before buying any product. Most of us tend to fall prey to the advertisements, which look so tempting and end up spending a bomb on a product that does not suit your skin or need. However, this year make sure you do proper research including reading online reviews and asking friends about the product (if they are are using one) rather than going by the commercials.
#3: I will not forget my body. Yes, because, we are focused on our face that we tend to neglect the rest of the body. Taking a bath is just one process, the body also needs more care. Opt for a body scrub and body massage weekly with moisturising daily. This can be the best gift for your body this year!
#4: I will stick to one programme. A good treatment or routine needs five to six weeks for visible effects, so don't lose your patience. Never experiment with two-three treatments together as it might not show any desired result and can worsen your existing skin problem as well.
#5: I will go to a dermatologist. It is wise to visit a dermatologist for any skin problem. A dermatologist can provide tailored advice about your skin while testing your skin problems or signs technically and can suggest the right products and treatment which will avoid unnecessary fancy or beautifying cosmetics.
#6: I won't starve my face. We have read many times but still don't believe that even oily skin needs a moisturiser. Use a little moisturiser every five-six hours if you have a dry or semi-dry skin and for normal skin, applying moisturiser twice a day is advised.
#7: I will clean up after the gym: Yes, losing calories in the gym is an achievement but that should not let your skin take a hit. Many gyms or sports clubs don't have clean showers and hence, you may not feel like using it after a workout, which could cause acne. Clean your face, back and neck after the class and change the clothes if you don't have a shower at a gym. And don't forget to take a shower as soon as you reach home.
#8: I will not touch my face unnecessarily. We can't resist touching the face, but we have to stop. Do not pop a pimple or a boil on the face or body. This is because dirt from your fingers transfers to your face and leads to further worsening of the breakouts.
