During summers, we sweat a lot due to hot and humid climate, which can lead to itching of the scalp. But this summer, you can prevent itching caused due to sweating by following a few simple hair care tricks, reveals Dr Rohit Batra, Dermatologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi.
Do not apply oil: We Indians have a habit of applying oil be it summers, winters or rainy season. However, our hair follicles produce a lot of oil, especially during summer, which can lead to itching. Moreover, it also hinders with exfoliation of the dead cells further worsening the condition and increasing the risk of dandruff.
Wash hair regularly: It is important to exfoliate or clear dead skin cells from the scalp as it can act as a growth medium for fungus leading to dandruff and fungal infections. Hence, make sure you wash your hair twice or thrice a week without fail. If you have excessive sweating, then wash your hair daily.
Do not use the conditioner on the scalp: As exposure to the sun might make the hair frizzy and dry, it is a wise idea to apply conditioner. However, do not apply the conditioner on the scalp but only to the pony or the hair strands. This is because it will further increase the risk of itching and dandruff.
Stay away from artificial hair colours: Yes, artificial hair colours contain a lot of chemicals which carry a high risk of itching, if you are allergic to the compounds. Hence, it is safer to avoid hair colours. However, if you want to colour the hair, opt for organic colours or those that are PPD (Paraphenylenediamine) free.
