Acne can be frustrating, especially if it follows you into adulthood. While you can't hope for acne to magically disappear overnight, you can always work towards improving your skin by being more disciplined about your life. These eight good habits may not guarantee you acne-free skin, but it will go a long way to improve your skin health and reduce the occurrence of pimples.
Sleeping well: Sleep deprivation has many casualties, one of which is your skin. If you are not well rested, it will soon show on your face in the form of pimples. So ensure that you don't go for days without a restful sleep. Within a few days of following a proper sleep routine, you will notice a great improvement in your acne.
Moisturisers: If you have an extremely dry skin you might want to add some moisturiser to your foundation to avoid dryness and flakiness on your skin.
Eating a plant-based diet: For years, experts have wondered whether there is a connection between acne and diet. Although they are still divided on the topic, many acne sufferers vouch for a mostly plant-based diet with animal products like oily fish in moderation. Go on a low gylcemic diet for best results.
Going off make up: Loading your sensitive skin with pore-clogging make up daily is not the smartest thing to do. It's best to let your skin breathe and use make up only when it is absolutely necessary.
Using soap-free face wash: Most soaps turn your skin alkaline, which makes it a perfect breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria. A good face wash should don't mess with your skin's natural pH balance and the acid mantle, a protective barrier on your skin which keeps the pathogens away. So always use a soap-free alternative.
Washing ONLY twice a day: If acne could be vanquished just by washing your face, nobody would ever suffer from this skin condition. Wash your face not more than twice a day. Excessive washing and scrubbing will irritate and dry your skin even further, causing more acne.
Consistency: To see results, it is important that you be consistent with your acne regimen. Don't give up on a treatment or switch products too often. Give your skin enough time to get used to a product before you introduce another one.
Being happy on the inside: They say that happy girls are the prettiest. Sadly, there is no happiness switch inside us that we can turn on at will. Stress and emotional upheaval makes your skin breakout, so try your best to beat them by doing things you love. Watch a funny movie, learn to play an instrument, spend time with family and friends, pick up a hobby or adopt a pet. Do anything that makes you feel a little lighter and happier.
