With Diwali around to corner, it is a good time to embrace traditions even when it comes to hair care. So it's time ditch your chemical-laden shampoos and conditioners and try some of these natural ways to cleanse your hair. Doesn't matter if your hair is dry, oily, voluminous or limp, every hair type needs tender loving care. "According to Ayurvedic literature, one of the important causes of hairfall is excessive body heat," says Lakshmi Thiyagarajan, Principal Scientist, CavinKare, R&D. She recommends these easy shikakai hair packs which not only cool your scalp but also act as a chemical-free natural cleanser.
Dry hair: shikakai+ curd: "Mixing shikakai powder with curd is one of the best options for people with dry hair, says Lakshmi. Form a smooth paste with the two ingredients and apply it on your scalp and your hair strands. "Massaging the blend to your scalp and washing it off after five to ten minutes will help moisturise and nourish your scalp and thus reduce hair fall and dandruff," she adds.
Oily hair: shikakai+ rice gruel: It is difficult to manage oily hair since it gets greasy quite frequently. Try this easy blend of shikakai and rice gruel (water in which rice is cooked), which helps cleanse your oily scalp. "Rice gruel is also one of the ancient ingredients that people used to make their hair shinier," says Lakshmi.
Itchy scalp: shikakai + onion juice: An itchy, flaky scalp is not just an inconvenience, but also an embarrassment. To get rid of the problem Lakshmi suggests that you apply a mixture of shikakai and onion juice. "The blend of both the ingredients clears the flakes and controls the itchiness," she adds.
For all hair types: Shikakai + aloe vera: When the nutrient-rich gel of the aloe plant is combined with the goodness of shikakai, it not only moisturises your hair but also nourishes the scalp. "The blend improves your scalp health, which in turn gives you thick and healthy hair," adds Lakshmi.
