Your mini guide to a one day detox after the festive season

Considering doing cleanse after the Christmas and New Year festivities? A one-day detox after a long weekend or a vacation could be just what your body needs. And if you are suffering from bloating, constipation or fatigue, your body is begging you to hit a reset button. Here’s how you can do it.

Morning

  • Start your day by drinking some hot water with freshly squeezed lime juice. Hot water will not only stimulate your digestive tract but will also give you a boost of vitamins. However, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day as hydration is key to a healthy detox.
  • While a rigorous workout is not recommended while you are on a detox, it is still important to keep your body warm. If you are feeling a little sluggish in the morning, there is no better way to wake up the body and mind than that gentle yoga poses.
  • You need to eat a meal which will keep you satisfied without weighing you down. A strawberry smoothie can be amazing to fill you up with the necessary fibre and antioxidants and keep things moving. Here are 6 healthy ingredients you must add to your smoothies. 
  • Instead of a cup of coffee, opt for green tea. Green tea is rich in antioxidants which will help boost your metabolism. If you feel that you need some snack before lunch, you can just grab a handful of blueberries or a fibre-rich apple.

Afternoon

  • Use your afternoon to move as much as you can. Get up from your desk in every half an hour and take short walks in your office. If you cannot find time to get up, you can do some stretches on your desk.
  • You need to eat a light lunch to avoid the afternoon slump. You can opt for a fibre-rich salad with some lean protein. Also, make sure that you put away your phone and just relish your food while you are having lunch. Go for a 20 minutes walk once you are done with lunch.
  • If you feel that you need something to eat before your dinner, there can be nothing like a green juice. Packed with essential vitamins the green juice will instantly boost your energy.

Evening

  • A great way to unwind in the evening is to get a massage or spend some time in the sauna. Both will ease any tension in your body and relieve any muscle soreness.
  • It is the perfect time to relax with a healthy dinner of lean protein and fresh veggies. Just do not switch on the television while eating to make sure you do not eat mindlessly. Try this high protein, healthy vegetarian dinner recipe. 
  • Sleep is linked to stress levels, weight loss and overall health so one of the best ways to detox is to make sure that you have a good quality sleep.
